Things runnin' through my head...

Had the day off from Fine Tooth Comb, the city was repaving Main Street, and since our business is on Main Street, we didn't anticipate much business today.

I was able to get a few things done today with my day off, ran some errands, visited with a friend, home in my jammies.

Opening up the groom shop was pretty nerve-wracking to say the least.  We had 2 customers, friends, on opening day.  We had a couple of dead days, which are discouraging, and we've had some full-house days, which are exciting.

There was a write up in the local paper about us, when we first opened, and that really got the word going around, then a customer would recommend us to their friend, and so on and so on, not one single bad review, and they all say they are coming back.  Pretty easily done when the groomer is a professional, one of the best, in my opinion.  We've had quite a few return customers as well.

Before and After - Bella

There are many more before and afters on our Fine Tooth Comb page on Facebook.

My little canines, Karma and Maria, they enjoy going to work with me every day.  Maria is so protective of me, we're working on that, and she's very vocal, working on that, too.

Karma Carmella - age 12

Maria Jane - age 1.5

Both of them enjoy a soak in the sun moment.

On the Cosmo side of my life, I have a display set up at FTC.

There are more Critters on it now.

That's a Knick Knack shelf that used to separate the kitchen and the dining room in the home I grew up in.  I've kept it all these years, probably since 1997 at least.

I've been concentrating on canines, since I'm displaying them in the groom shop.  These are Stripey Chihuahua, Red embossed felt Dachshund, Nose To the Ground Camo Hunting Dog, and the All American Hound Dog.  All in various stages of finishing up, soon to be included in my Etsy shop, Handmade by Cosmo.

My Air Force family are still in Germany, all of them growing up so fast! This is the farthest away from each other than we have ever been, and if it weren't for Skype, I would probably be insane.

On a hike in Germany.

And doing fun things, like meeting "the real" Rapunzel.

Plus, she's taken a dance class, gymnastics, and now she is taking a Karate class.  She asked if she could.  She also asked if she could have her ears pierced.  She continues to grow and be smart and funny...I just love everything about her, and I miss them all like crazy.  We send each other packages of stuff now and then, so fun.  I'm ready for them to come home, though.

That should probably get you caught up pretty well.  Over here we're livin' life and doing the best we can.

When I'm old

I'm thinking about what it is going to be like for me when I am "old."

While Sweetheart and I had folks in the Nursing Home, their favorite channel to watch was TCM, Turner Classic Movies. Those were movies of their time.

I am 55 years old.  I wondered what movies would be on TCM then?  My range of movie remembering is about 53.5 years...the movies I'd like to see in circulation at that time would be...

The Wizard of Oz.  Goes without saying.  When Dorothy opens the door to the colorful world of Munchkin Land...there is nothing better.  No matter how many times I see it, the anticipation of h er opening that door is the same for me, every time.

To Kill A Mockingbird.  The best.

Big Fish.  I love how all the stories were true.  What a life, he lived it to the fullest.

TV Shows...I love the 1950-1970 genre.  From Andy Taylor and Theodore Cleaver, and many more in between, These shows chronicled the life and times as we were living it.  All In The Family...Maude...controversial.

Oh, can NOT forget The Golden Girls.  Nope.  No show like it, never will be.

These TV channels that are showing the nostalgic shows, they know what's going on.  Watching a show or movie that you watched 20-30-40 years ago takes you back there.  You remember where you saw it the first time, who you were with...each one holds a memory of a safer and simpler time.

Ch Ch Ch Changes!

I have been so very absent, but I've been busy, mostly happy, productive, and changing things around a little bit.

I resigned from my job at the Pro-Shop.  Membership is so dwindled, I'm not getting much business, not enough to even pay my paltry salary, so, I'll miss seeing my boys, it was great fun and I'll miss all of them, not like I'll never see them again.  I live in a small town, people run into each other in a small town, y'know.

Janet/Dammit and I have been talking and planning and brainstorming since February about opening a professional pet grooming salon.  She and her husband found a super quaint building on the main street of a small town, about 20 mins from my house to there.  We opened on May 12th, 2015.  (That was yesterday.)

Janet's husband is a Master Carpenter, he did so much work, her son, Robert, is our bather, he'll do pretty much anything he's asked to do.  We're doing this on a shoestring budget, but we are doing it.

Our first customer had done a super cool favor for Janet's family, so his dog, Sadie, was the first to come to our shop.  She was a sweet little terrier mix, good dog.

The next dog was one of Mr. Dammit's co-workers.  He brought in a spunky Lhasa mix named Jack for a shave and a bath.  Stinky pooch, but so sweet, once he got the hang of it, but barked and barked and barked and barked and barked and barked and barked...and barked.  The dentist next door that is only there on Tuesdays proclaimed that he loved dogs.  I wonder if he was being sarcastic.  I didn't see him saying it, so not sure.

Jack Before

Jack After.  That's Dammit Janet, btw.

So, anyway.  We will have internet service at "our" groom shop on Wednesday.  No clients today, but we do have a solid 4, maybe 7 dogs for tomorrow.

The local paper is doing a feature article about us, it comes out this Friday, I am so excited.  Their office is just across the street, we went over to see about placing an ad, and next thing we knew we were being interviewed.  She came over and took pics on Monday.  Such a small town, that a groom shop is newsworthy.  We had a lot of fun doing it.

Now, when you think of me, don't think about a golf course, think about this:

Ignore the orange things, I don't know what they are.

That will be me behind the window.  A few Critters will be displayed on that shelf above the flowers (left facing) and there's another shelf along that left wall.  Also a Gecko tank and my fish tank will be above it.

I picked the color for the lobby.  I love that color so much, it is so soothing, don'tcha think?

Come see us if you are in the neighborhood sometime.  Might be a nice trip for a Pambler and her Pooch to come visit and stuff.  *hint hint*

Friday Check In

Had a follow up with my doc. yesterday.  He's happy with my progress so far.  He'll get my final lab results back today sometime, optimistically waiting for the call.

  • I believe this will be a "button" post.  I'll be home all day because it is very cold outside today.  It's "face hurt" cold.  I don't go out in this.  So, I'll be sharing thoughts.
  • Commenting on facebook...a lot of times people seem eager to get on their soapboxes and share their beliefs/knowledge/trivia, etc. with any and all.  And if a person dares to disagree, The War of Words is on.  There will be a bunch of name calling, and foul language, and cyber chest much as it says about the mental state of our country, I do find them enjoyable to follow along.
  • Finding your favorite hairdresser after 7 years?  Priceless!  I haven't had a decent haircut since she went missing, found her yesterday...Hooray!
  • Heard from the doc, my levels are good, no permanent harm done.  That's a relief!
  • I have two times of the day I like to venture out of my home.  10:00 am, all the mom's have dropped their kids at their various schools, done their grocery shopping in their jammie pants and pillow hair, and have gotten back home in time for an afternoon of laundry and catching up on picking up on the place so it looks somewhat presentable until they have to get out again to gather their children.  (I am not judging, I've been there and done that.)  The other time is 1:00 pm.  All the worker bees have had their lunches, ran their errands so they don't have to stop on the way home, and are heading back to their hives to grind out the last 1/2 of the day.

I skyped with my girls for over an hour yesterday morning.  That was fun, Lots of laughs and giggles and silly stuff.  I miss them like crazy.

Today is the first day I am going to venture out of my house since I got sick.  I am off all prescribed pain meds, and ready to get started on this new healthy lifestyle.  I have to run a few errands, a couple grocery stores is all, I need to bring some fresh produce in this house.  I mentioned I got a juicer, that's going to be my main source of intake for a while.  I'm really liking the "clean" feeling I get after having a big glass of fresh juice.
And contrary to what I see seems to be popular belief, the cleaning up afterwards takes about 5 mins. total.   It isn't a total "pain" that I've read in some of the reviews.  There are no pots or pans to wash, I don't see how that is harder than cleaning up after a full "traditional" meal.

I just listed a couple of cutie Critters, suitable for Valentine gift giving:

This critter is double the size of my original flying pig.  8.5" tall, 45" long, wingspan, 9"
I made this one in merino wool felt, so it's what I feel is "so special."

Red Goat

Perfect for the "old goat" in your life.
Admit it, we all have one in our lives, why not embrace it?

It's almost 1:00, I better gather up my stuff and get moving.

Any plans for the weekend?  We're going out for dinner tomorrow night, my favorite, All You Can Eat Shrimp.  Nom Nom Nom.

Catching Up

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015

Wakey wakey at 8:00.  Been up and at it since then.  Had a smoothie for breakfast, took my pills...funny, Sweetheart said, "Your stomach has really gone down," and I took it as a compliment!

Yesterday I had to scurry.  I had sold a Critter, and I was sure I had it in stock.  I looked and looked, then remembered we had family over after Christmas, and I always gift the girls, young and old, with a Critter of their choice.  I must have gifted that one, and forgot to take it out of my listings.  I started early and finished late, but it was perfect, and out the door this morning.

Today I am working on another order. I'm late in sending it but after a chat with the customer, it's all good.  It's a Christmas present for her mother, so no real deadline.  It'll go out tomorrow or the next day.

I have another project, learning another valuable lesson again.  Never use the good stuff for the first try.  Fortunately the things I need to change are minimal...gotta stop getting into a rush with new stuff.  I just get so excited when a new idea is beginning to take shape...step back and think, I gotta remember that.

A customer contacted me to see if I could enlarge my elephant pattern.  We do have a print shop in town that can enlarge, so yes, yes I can.  The smallest is the original, they go up 1/2 size from there.  All three are made with merino wool felt (which if I haven't mentioned, I love to work with) and both the customer and myself were very satisfied with them.

A new pattern, Goat.  I made this one for a good friend of mine.  He has 2 goats, and his favorite color is camo.  He was surprised.  I love doing that.

I made a gray one for another friend of mine.  Told him I made it just for him, because he is a gray old goat, too.  Made his wife laugh, made him blush.  Mission accomplished.

Right about the same time as I was contacted about the elephants, another customer requested an enlarged Lazy Pony, only done in tea-dyed muslin.  His wife had tried to buy one like it at an antique store, but the price was too high for her.  That was the first time I had tea-dyed anything.  I used a very chunky yarn for the mane and tail, I was very pleased with how it turned out.  Haven't heard from the customer yet...not going to fret about it, though.

So...that kinda catches us up for now.  I better get to "work."

My New Life

I've had a demon on my shoulders for over 20 years.

It almost killed me this week.  After three days in the hospital, thankfully, I am still breathing. Gotta make a lot of lifelong changes in my lifestyle and diet.

Finally seeing the world without the blinders of this demon.  The things I didn't see with those blinders on...well, I won't be able to fix it all at once, but it will all be fixed.

To become a true participant in this life and in my relationship, minus the demon, will take some practice, but I'm sure it will be easier than I used to think it would be.

On the business side of my life, I can only see this as a positive.  More time to work, More time to finish things I've started.

I've added some new Critters to the shop, sold a few for Christmas and have had some sales this month, too.  Can't wait to be more active, doing the things I love.

Maria and I continue to enjoy each other's company.  She's even more adorable.

The rest of "my posse" are doing pretty peachy, too.  Sweetheart has calmed down, Young Son is doing what he does.  The extended family that are in Germany, are doing well.

Pretty sure I'll be blogging more, too.
